Professor Yvonne Perrie is the Chair in Drug Delivery within Strathclyde Institute for Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. Prior to this appointment, she was Professor in Drug Delivery, within Aston University, Birmingham, England (2007-2016). Yvonne has a BSc (First-Class Hons) in Pharmacy from Strathclyde University and she attained her PhD from the University of London under the supervision of Prof Gregoriadis. Yvonne’s research is multi-disciplinary and is focused on the development of drug carrier systems to facilitate the delivery of drugs and vaccines, providing practical solutions for current healthcare problems. Yvonne has published approximately 150 peer-reviewed papers, 5 patents and 4 text books. She is a Fellow of the Society of Biology, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, a member of the College of Fellows for the Controlled Release Society, and an Eminent Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Yvonne was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours List 2024 for services to pharmaceutical innovation and regulation.

Professor in Pharmaceutical Product Engineering & Associate Director
Daniel Markl is a Professor in Pharmaceutical Product Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and Associate Director at the CMAC Future Manufacturing Research Centre. His research aims to develop cyber-physical systems and associated, innovative methods for drug product development and manufacturing that accelerate the pace at which new medicines are developed and delivered across important therapeutic areas. This includes the coupling of advanced measurement techniques with digital process and product design tools to resolve the relationship between material attributes, manufacturing conditions and the performance and stability of solid oral dosage forms.
Pharma manufacturing generates vast process, quality and supply chain data. How do we ensure this data is standardised and doesn’t remain siloed? Pre-competitive data sharing could also unlock collective intelligence and strengthen supply resilience. But what are the practical, regulatory and cultural barriers, and what does genuine data collaboration look like in practice?

Katie is a chemical engineer with over 25 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She started in process development and scale-up roles with both Merck and Co. (USA) and AstraZeneca (UK), before moving to technical leadership and strategy roles in the deployment of manufacturing technology into AstraZeneca, where she helps drive adoption of more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly technologies to increase patient access to medicines and reduce the manufacturing carbon footprint.
Katie currently leads the ILG -LS Sustainable Production Group, which plays a central role in advising on government policy and guiding companies through the transition to net zero carbon.

Director, Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallisation (CMAC) Research Hub & Co-founder
Professor Alastair Florence is Distinguished professor in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Strathclyde and Director of CMAC leading a portfolio of collaborative research, training and translational programmes aimed at transforming the way medicines are developed and manufactured. Manufacturing research is targeted in enabling greater use of digital and advanced processing technologies. He leads several flagship projects including the EPSRC Future CMAC Research Hub and recently announced Made Smarter Innovation Digital Medicines Manufacturing Research Centre. The portfolio is being delivered in close partnership with leading industrial partners from across pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and academic collaborators.
His research expertise is in crystallisation and physical form control and characterisation of pharmaceuticals. Extensive experience in the formation of pharmaceutical particles in continuous processes using a range of technologies and in the development and application of digital tools and predictive methods to control and monitor crystallisation and pharmaceutical solids. Approaches for the characterisation of particles are also widely used and physical analysis of crystalline pharmaceuticals with a focus on the influence of crystallisation processes on structure and critical pharmaceutically relevant attributes that dictates product performance. Has published over 120 peer reviewed research papers in these areas and currently supervises a large multidisciplinary research group.
